Hugh Town beach is the first site to greet most visitors to the Scilly Isles as they stop off the Scillonian ferry. This curved stretch of sand forms the backdrop to the islands' main harbour.

The beach is predominantly golden sand with the best spots being at either end. The section by the main quay is often the most sheltered and is a great spot to sit with a snack from the high street which runs behind.

If ranked purely on beach appeal Town beach would certainly not outscore the powdery sands of Porthcressa on the other side of sand, but each beach has its own benefits. Town beach is more sheltered from the prevailing winds and there is always something to watch in this busy little harbour.
